Free mammography
screening is offered by Charleston
Area Medical
Center through a special
grant from the Salvation Army's Marguerite Capehart trust fund two days of each
month. Limited space is available (18 screenings per day). Registration
is required. Call 345-9051.
To receive a free
mammogram, women must meet the guidelines established by the American Cancer
Society, which include:
- Must be 35
years of age or older,
- Cannot be
pregnant or nursing,
- Cannot have
breast implants,
- Cannot have
current breast problems or a history of breast problems for themselves,
- Cannot have
had a mammogram in the last year (very specific to date),
- Must have a
physician for the results to be sent.
