Jessica is a Parent Educator with the Parents As Teachers program at Cornerstone Family Interventions.  The evidence-based program increases parent involvement and confidence, supports school readiness and builds protective factors to prevent child abuse and neglect.  Parents in PAT have lower incidence of child abuse and neglect.  Currently there are four cases that were referrals from CPS and those families have elected to keep the services.  Jessica is seeing those families about once a week.  Jessica is seeing 3 other families and there is an opening for one more family.   The families participate in a parent meeting the last Thursday of each month – a speaker presents or they discuss a parenting topic.  There will be an open house in the future – Monica will forward the information to Michele to forward to her Boone County lists.

Regional Brain Zone Team - Michele reported that Thomas Memorial Hospital is interested in the Brain Under Construction Zone project, but the Thomas Memorial Hospital is not able to fund the project at this time.  Other funding sources will be pursued.

Boone County Stop Watch (Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition) -  Alisha reported that Stop Watch helped promote the National Prescription Take Back Day on Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies collected prescription drugs in Madison and Racine.  Alisha updated the group about Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) that Stop Watch is currently conducting (5 out of 100 completed and entered interviews), and the training series that they are hosting.  The next training is on Domestic Violence Prevention and Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Mandated Reporting on Thursday December 15, tentatively at the Boone County Courthouse.  It is targeted toward the entire community.  There will be free CEUs and free lunch.  The next Stop Watch meeting is today at Noon at Park Avenue Restaurant. All were invited to attend and learn more.
