Regional Family Resource Network of Boone County

June 19, 2008, 10:00 – 11:15 a.m.

Present:  Michele Baranaskas (RFRN Staff), Brenda Toppings (WV DHHR Boone District), Craig Wagoner (ARC of the Three Rivers), Jennifer Jackson (RFRN Board of Directors Family Representative), Nicole Logan (VolunteerWV.org), Nicole Rowe-Marcum (Boy Scouts of America), April Abraham (WV Birth to Three), Angela Teitsworth (Prestera Center Respite Program) and Debbie Hon (Automated Health Systems).

 

Michele welcomed everyone and began introductions. 

 

Craig Waggoner, Executive Director of the ARC of the Three Rivers, spoke.  ARC of the Three Rivers provides services to residents of Boone, Clay, Kanawha & Putnam Counties who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Craig is also a Boone County resident, a member of the Governor’s Citizens Advisory Council and shared his experience and support of Family Resource Networks.  Craig stated that the ARC would like to establish an Advisory Council for Boone County as well as recruit Boone County residents for the ARC of the Three Rivers Board of Directors.

 

The Kids First Community of Boone, Clay, Kanawha & Putnam Counties held its most recent regional meeting on Tuesday, June 10 in Clay County.  Approximately 30 people were in attendance. 

 

The Service Array for Logan, Mingo & Boone Counties will start soon with a snapshot of various data being compiled.

 

Stop Watch coordinated a pool party at WaterWays on Friday night, June 13, 7- 9 p.m. with 334 adults, youth and children in attendance.  Youth from the Big Ugly Community Center in Lincoln County presented a skit on the dangers of prescription drug abuse during the party. Information was distributed to families as they left the party.  Boone County Community Foundation grant funds were used for admissions, food and advertisement.

 

The Boone County Community Foundation awarded RFRN $5,000 for continued support of Stop Watch, which was the amount requested.
