Speaker: Jeff Nelson, principal of Nellis
Elementary. Nellis Elementary is now
considered and innovation zone, it is the only one in Boone County. This designation will create a variety of
changes for Nellis including a schedule change for 4th, 5th,
and 6th graders. They will
attend school for 9 days during the summer to participate in interactive learning
which will include outdoor activities and projects.
Two
teachers will work with the students and co-teach. One teacher will work on academics and the
other will work on developmental skills etc…
They are hoping that teachers and other staff will be able to learn
about resources in the community in order to help families and refer them to
resources available.
Nellis
has already partnered with 4-H in order to take advantage of some of their
programs and with other organizations.
Nellis Elementary would like to partner with the Boone FRN in order to
network and learn more about resources available in the county. They would like permission to list Boone FRN
as a partner on any materials for Nellis Elementary innovation zone.
