VAN
- Van Junior/Senior High School students recently participated in
Environmental Scan, a project sponsored by Boone County Stop Watch.
Stop Watch committee member Tracy Lambert supervised the project through while four students participated.
The
students were to collect as much data as they could, answer questions
and identify the strengths, weaknesses, trends and the conditions.
Students
were selected to scout out several situations throughout the community
and to take pictures of items and situations in their community that
promote positive and negative influences related to substance abuse in
Boone County.
Advertisements for beer, cigarette, pop and candy were among those studied, school officials said.
The students were instructed to not show names of stores or any people in the photos.
Stop Watch developed the film and returned the photographs to the students.
The students took the pictures and created project boards highlighting the best ones.
The
projects were on display at the Boone County Health Fair at the Madison
Civic Center on Oct. 5 and at the Racine All About Health Community
Event on Oct. 9.
Van High School was the only school to participate in the project.
The students who participated were Brandon Lambert, Miranda Pauley and Katie Jo Zornes.
